From Management to Leadership
Good management is an essential factor in succeeding organizational goals ,yet managers have to be leaders too. because distinctive characteristics combined with management and leadership provides strengths for any organization. In a better way it could be simplify as “Management organize the production and supply of fish to people, where as Leadership teaches and motivate people to fish. Organizations need both types of Skills ” Says Gordon P. Rebey 2010.
Management
and Leadership reflects different sets of skills and qualities which regularly
overlap within the individual. One
person’s quality and skills might different than other , but ideally a manager
develops a balance of both. Primarily management promotes stability and within
the existing structure and systems of an organization to ensure that the
supplier being paid, customer being invoiced , production of good and service
on time and so forth. On the other hand leadership promotes vision and change
by questioning the status quo and being willing to face reasonable outdated
risks, unproductive or socially irresponsible norms to be replaced to face new
challenges.
“Ford”
is only one of the big three automakers in In US . It was losing $83 million a
day in 2008. Allan Mulally the CEO has applied both management and leadership
to revive Ford motor company. He approached his excellent management skills to
route out operating inefficiencies, cut costs, stream line the structure and improve
quality. On the other hand he inspired people with the vision and transformed
it to meet the challenges of the 21st century. His leadership could
able to shift ego-driven culture to accountability and committed. Further he
motivated thousands of employees to embrace change and execute the vision and
the strategy. He ate in the company cafeteria rather than the executive dining
room , talked with people at all levels ,occasionally popped in to meeting to
offer encouragement and three years later in 2011 the company had a net profit
of $20 billion.
Leadership
cannot replace management and it should be in addition to that. Good management
needed to help to meet current commitment while good leadership need to move
organization into the future. The power of leadership comes from the foundation
of the well managed organization.

A very good example to describe the difference between management and leadership. $83 million lost turned into $20billion net profiy because of the leadership. If an organization need to be successful, a good leadership should be behind.

ReplyDeleteManagement consists of controlling a group or a set of entities to accomplish a goal. Leadership refers to an individual's ability to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward organizational success. Influence and inspiration separate leaders from managers, not power and control. A very good example for explaining the disparity between leadership and management. Citations should be carried out as directed. In accordance with the Harvard style, references should also be made. You were supposed to learn more and put in more variables of emancipation. It is important to have a strong case.
